Abstract

With the following article we want to show the importance that La Villa river had for the small madīna/villa/ciudad of Antequera (Malaga province) during the Medieval period, both Nasrid and Castilian. Its role of supplying the population, irrigating fields and moving mills, occurs through specific structures, although insufficiently. The transformations after the Christian conquest in 1410, due to extension, not to neglect, coincide with the late demographic growth of the end of fifteenth century and the beginning of sixteenth century.
