Resumen

In thispaper the influence of Oscar Wilde in Spain during the threefirst decades of our century is analyzed. Such influence is relatively extensive and deep, and goes through three differentphases: thefirst, of apartial nature; the second, which is the widest, most varied and deepest; and the third, of a forthright decline. A good number of Spanish writers and commentators were affected by such influence: the modernists, both major and minor, early in the century; the established writers of three generations who had adopted or commented un different aspects of Wilde, and the translators and eulogists. Thefact that Wilde's early popularity in Spain had to do with non-literary, sociological circumstances, rather than with purely literary events, is given emphasis.
