Abstract

The studies which tradicionally have been done about the rupestrian art from the Spanish southeast are only artistic and stylistic ones. This showes a rare attention to the great possibilities that the application of new technologies and laboratory analysis offer. The first work towards that new studing-way was done in Altamira Caves. With the here presented study covering all the prehistoric pictorial art in the Murcian Region (Southeast of Spain), one step forward has been taken. Application and variety of pigments are verified. Then the studies and analysis made by microscope and based on the taken microsamples from numerous caves are described. From their results several interesting conclusions have been reached as: the existence of pictorial superpositions which have been studied stratigraphically.
