Abstract

This article takes about some members of the gens Nonia in Republican Hispania: C. Nonius Asprenas, attested in a stamp on a lead ingot from Carthago Nova and a pair of L. Nonius' freedmen from Tarraco. The Nonii Asprenates are an Italic family from Picenum and begin to bear the cognorzzen Asprenas since L. Nonius Asprenas was admitted to ordo senatorius ca. 40 B.C. as proconsul in the Caesarian armies. Therefore, from his cognomen we can date C. Nonius Asprenas ca. 40 B.C. and we suggest that he could have been a cousin, or, at least, a relative to L. Nonius Asprenas in the Caesarian times.
