Abstract

The dynamics of the urban systematization of Cartagena in roman times was subordinated to the orographical irregularitie of the space in wich the old town had to spread. Despite of determined pretensions to sketch an almost canon vision of the roman urbanism, maybe aplicable to determined urban areas, we should think about the physiognomy of the town, irregular as a whole, far away from the characteristic models of roman town planning, however, a certain originality can be observed in that urban display, showed in an advantageous transformation of the orographical obstacles for the benefit of an urban and functional
architecture with aspirations to rationalize the space arrangement.
