Abstract

This article aims to present a State of the art and some reflections on the issue of self-consciousness and prehistoric masks, between nature and culture. A cognitive approach from an interdisciplinary perspective, supported by references to evidence and archaeological evidence, arguments of Primatology and Ethnology, deals with an interpretation of the mask as representation, attribute inseparable representational capacity, ceremonial display of identity and consciousness human.
