SEXUAL VIOLENCE AGAINST ANIMALS: A PROFESSIONAL AND ETHICAL VETERINARY PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
Sexual violence against animals is a problem that must be approached with determination and professionalism, since it represents a risk not only for animals but also for society. Also, it is necessary to have legal measures for its prevention and punishment.
In this context, both zoophilia and bestiality have existed since ancient times, with different historical perceptions, but it is important to distinguish both concepts. In any case, sexual aggression towards animals represents an eroticization of violence and the position of power, which can lead in some cases to necrophilic tendencies, obtaining pleasure from killing the animal. Various studies demonstrate a relationship between sexual abuse injuries in animals and humans, with findings such as trauma, penetration and mutilation.
In any case, veterinarians play a crucial role in detecting, collecting evidence, performing analysis and reporting these situations, although they often face difficult scenes. Despite this, their role in effectively addressing cases of sexual abuse is essential.
