STUDIES ON THE ELECTROCARDIOGRAM OF THE HORSE
Abstract
Different lead systems for recording electrocardiograms in the horse have been studied. Mean values and standard deviation of the duration and amplitude of the different electrocardiographic parameters, as well as the morphology, heart rate and rhythm were obtained in the different systems in a population of 24 Spanishbred horses. Adventages and disadventages of each system are discussed. The standard limb system conformsto Einthoven's rule and has been used by many authors but morpholopical diversity of the QRS complex in lead 11 has been found. The Dubois system does not present this disadventape and good quality traces can be obtained. The Blanchard system does not conform perfectly to Einthoven's rule, although ECG traces are good. ECG traces are good too in the semiorthogonal and tetrahedral systems but it is necessary to modify the position of the electrodes when using a conventional electrocardiograph.Downloads
