UNA VISIÓN ACTUALIZADA Y ÉTICA ACERCA DE LA FUNCIÓN DE LOS PROFESIONALES VETERINARIOS EN LOS CENTROS DE RECUPERACIÓN DE FAUNA SALVAJE
Resumen
Los centros de recuperación de fauna salvaje desempeñan un papel esencial en la conservación de la biodiversidad, a la vez que incrementan los estándares de bienestar animal y potencian una mejor vigilancia sanitaria. Este trabajo analiza de forma integral su funcionamiento en España, abarcando su marco legal, sus principales modelos de gestión y las especies más comunes atendidas. Se profundiza en el papel del veterinario en estos centros, donde desarrolla una labor que combina funciones clínicas, quirúrgicas, epidemiológicas, de bioseguridad, de conservación y educativas, enfrentándose además a la toma de decisiones muy condicionadas por dilemas éticos asociados al tratamiento, la necesidad de realizar una eutanasia o la liberación al medio. Todo ello exige valorar en conjunto el bienestar individual del animal, su viabilidad funcional en la naturaleza y la conservación de sus poblaciones. Finalmente, se plantean propuestas de mejora centradas en la formación especializada, la integración del enfoque “Una Sola Salud”, el fortalecimiento de la investigación y la creación de criterios éticos y técnicos homogéneos.
