Abstract

A procedure for the potentiometric determination of Hg(1) and of a mixture of Hg(II) and Hg(I) with the agents EDTA, DCTA, EGTA and DTPA are presented. The determination of Hg(I) (M/20-M/500) are realized at pH 5.5 (urotropine-HNO3), Hg-SCE or Pt-SCE as electrodes are used. The determination of Hg(II) in the mixture is realized with the agent DTPA at pH ≈ 1.5 (electrodes Pt-SOE), inmediately urotropine HNO3 of pH 5.5 is added and Hg(I) is determined also with DTPA. Procedures for potentiometric determinations of both ions in mixtures in which the concentrations of Hg(II) and Hg(I) may be very different are also presented. Theoric explanation about the implícate process is given.
