Abstract

From November 1909 through February 1910 Rafael Altamira came to Mexico to attend the celebration of the III Hundred years of the creation of the University of Oviedo with the purpose of creating a deep relationship with the Latin American Universities. He was not only the representative of his academic institution but of an important group of intelectuals who presented an American program. In Mexico, the educational thought of Rafael Altamira is stated in his lectures, interviews with the press and his advicc that was requircd by thc Ministry of Education which at thc time was concerned with the creation of the National University. He addressed to univcrsity and educational people but also to the working and lower classes to convey his educative experiencc on diffcrent approaches on University models, their organization, fünction, and methods, having significan effect on the organization of new practices and educational intitutions of different groups in the country.
