Abstract

Soil degradation may come into desertification processes which makes necesary the development of advanced detection technics to these problems. On this basis, characteristics and evolution degree of soil in 13 parcels in the Community of Madrid have been studied in connection to the serial evolution degree of vegetal communities and the present colpodid species. We were expecting that the worst soils have the most degradated vegetation and would also contain the greatest richness in colpodid ciliates as soon as any other vegetal or ciliated specie could be good bioindicator of different risk situations. Our final findings are unequivocal with regard to the aspect of each soil as well as the flora and vegetation which it hold, but they are not convincing in regard to the specific or differential presence of colpodids in the most degradated soils.
