Abstract

The first teratological case in the visceral leishmaniasis vector Lutzomyia evansi, is described and illustrated from one female specimen collected in a periurban area of the municipality of Sincelejo, department of Sucre, Colombia. The anomalous specimen presented a bifurcation at the base of a spermathecae, wich originated a third undeveloped spermathecae. The observed frequency of this anomaly in the sand fly population was 1:311.
