Abstract

The species of Origanum from south-west Spain (O. majorana L., O. Virens Hoffmanns & Link y O. compactum< Benth.) were examined using a light and scanning electron microscope. The nutlets showed a considerable uniformity from an anatomical point of view. However, these species can be differentiated based on morphological features such as the ornamentation, the symmetry, or the presence/absence of papillae. The mucilage is characterized by its discontinuous secretion and slight consistency. Lastly, it should be noted that the dispersal system of nutlets is ballistic.
